Our secrets to a long, happy product life.

Hurtta products are designed with the environment in mind. They are also built tough for long-lasting use and enjoyment. The goal is to think long-term for the sake of dogs, people and the planet. And to encourage care, including maintenance and repair, reuse by handing down products to other dogs, and recycling to properly dispose of products at the end of their life.

How to repair a Hurtta dog jacket

Repair outer cover fabric.

Clean the entire product or the area to be repaired according to the care instructions for washing by hand or in the washing machine. Wash the product by hand if it seems more tearing could occur by machine washing. Allow the product to drip-dry fully so it is easier to handle and to avoid loosening any glued sections. Sew the edges of the torn cover fabric together by hand with a few stitches to keep the pieces in places. Cut a piece of adhesive fabric so that it covers the torn section or the area to be repaired by at least 1 cm. Apply the product on a flat surface, remove the protective backing from the adhesive fabric and attach it to the damaged area according to the adhesive fabric's instructions.

Repair a thermal layer or inner lining.

Repair the torn outer fabric of the Hurtta product as noted above. If the thermal layer inside the product is only slightly torn, it does not need to be repaired. If a large section is damaged, we recommend repairing the torn edges of the lining with a few stitches. Hand sewing is enough to patch the lining fabric as it is not waterproof like the product's outer fabric. When sewing the lining fabric, be careful not to sew through the outer fabric as the sewing needle will damage its ability to resist water.

Repair a jacket's broken quick-snap buckle.

Measure the width of the belt and order a new buckle from the Hurtta online store to replace the damaged one. Are both sides of the buckle damaged, or would replacing one side suffice? If both sides need to be replaced, we recommend contacting a local tailor. Replacing just one side of the buckle on the belt strap is easy to change yourself. The end of the belt strap is finished with a stitch. Remove the stitches or cut the end of the strap. If you are cutting the strap, finish by burning the edge to prevent the threads from unwinding further. Remove the broken part, replace it with a new buckle piece, and thread the belt strap once again. The end of the strap does not need to be sewn onto the adjustment buckle.

Repair jacket leg loops that are too long or overstretched.

Jacket leg loops may become too long for the dog if they are overly stretched. The leg loops are easy to shorten with a knot. If the knot harms the dog, rubs or tangles the dog's hair or coat, it is a good idea to shorten the leg loops by sewing. If the elasticity of the leg loops is completely stretched, you can replace the leg loops completely. We recommend that you consult a professional.
