I bought this product for its mosquito, horsefly and tick repellent properties. It was according to Hurtta one of the alternatives to the sun and bug overall now discontinued for some years. The other alternatives being swimmer vest and ranger vest. Unfortunately, I preferred the ranger vest, but Hurtta products are very hard to find in Canada and no retailer or supplier had it in my dog's size. They didn't know when they would restock either.
Although, Permethrin is known as an insecticide that kills or repels mosquitoes, the worker vest I received does not repel mosquitoes at all. We did a 15 minutes test and she got bitten repeatedly. The mosquitoes would even settle on the vest.
My dog's measurements match the XL size (neck 16.5"; neck base 18"; chest 31.5"; waist 23"). Upon unpacking it, I found it clever to be able to cut the material on their belly to adjust the fit. This was not necessary for my dog. That being said, it is very tight around the shoulders. The part made out of Cordura blocks the movement of the shoulder. Let's hope it will stretch a little. Since there is a $25 fee to return it, we will keep it and probably use it in the fall to protect my dog from high grass and branches.
