We believe that dachshunds, drevers, and other similarly shaped dogs deserve coats that not only fit perfectly but look amazing, too. That’s why, with Hurtta’s expanded range, we’ve taken these tricky, in-between sizes into account. Introducing: Hurtta XS sizes.

Hurtta has always strived to create products that accommodate the diverse shapes and sizes of different dog breeds. However, certain breeds, especially those with long backs and narrow bodies, have typically been challenging to fit into standard sizing.

Take corgis, for example: while they have short legs, their body shape is similar to that of many other dogs, so they can often fit standard-sized gear. But for dogs like the dachshund, we knew we had to think outside the box.

Hurtta’s new sizing range focuses on back length, ensuring a perfect fit for all body shapes. With a variety of adjustable back-length options, each jacket is tailored to suit the unique proportions of different breeds, providing a close and comfortable fit for even the most challenging body types.

This is crucial not just for comfort but for protection as well. Long-backed, narrow-bodied dogs often need a little extra shielding from the elements. Breeds like dachshunds, in particular—who love to stay warm and cozy—love a well-fitted, functional coat. In fact, a snug, protective fit can even make it easier to coax them outdoors on cold, wet days, which is always a bonus!

And once outside, your dog should be free to move naturally. That’s why a well-fitted coat should never restrict their movement. Loose-fitting coats, especially those with overly long sleeves, can quickly cause discomfort, impede motion, or even lead to stumbling. Plus, a properly fitted coat stays cleaner and lasts longer.

Alongside the focus on back length, with designs specially crafted for long-backed, narrow-bodied dogs, the key differences in XS sizing are the shorter side and back skirts, designed to accommodate short legs while still offering full protection.
