Our lovely peculiar pack

Imagine a home where six rescue dogs, each with their distinct ages, temperaments, and sizes, join an already bustling family. What unfolds is a larger pack and a deeply enriched, loving family structure. Daniela and Sabrina, affectionately known as the ”Hurtta models,” share their lives with us – a life where every dog is a cherished, equal member of their family.

Within our walls lives a harmonious pack of dogs; six rescues from diverse backgrounds: Spain, Romania, and Vyborg. Each of our furry friends boasts a unique personality, securing their special place within our pack and an even bigger one within our hearts.

Our decision to adopt rescue dogs was born from a stark realization: this world is filled with too many dogs without homes. Engaging in fostering, we found, is the most effective way to help and rehabilitate dogs from rescue environments, offering them a chance at a new life and a forever home.

Every dog that we help carries a past marked by its own set of challenges, traumas, and stories. A mere glance can reveal the depth of experiences they’ve endured before finding respite with us. It’s crucial, therefore, to approach each new friend without preconceived notions, allowing them a fresh start and the opportunity to integrate into our family at their own pace.

Our home has become a refuge, especially for those less likely to be adopted—timid, special-needs dogs that would otherwise linger in shelters unnoticed. We open our doors to these beautiful souls, offering them a chance at a life they might never have had. From dogs beset by fear and health issues to those with difficulties socializing, our family becomes their forever home, often after foster situations reveal they are meant to stay with us permanently.

The journey of a rescue dog’s rehabilitation is deeply personal, with time being their greatest ally. Our experiences have taught us that patience is key, allowing each dog the space and tranquility to adjust at their own pace. Time, consistency, and a peaceful environment are the cornerstones of this transition.

New arrivals often deal with exhaustion, stress, and anxiety, disoriented by their changing circumstances. It’s imperative to gently introduce them to the rhythms of household life, from solitude to socialization, embracing their presence with patience and understanding. Typically, three to five months are needed for a dog to acclimate to its new environment fully.

Our journey has been one of learning and growth, facing challenges like separation anxiety, resource guarding, and adapting to routine medical care. Simple tasks like car rides required patience and understanding, not to mention house training and establishing a daily routine.

Some of our dogs have shown fear of entering or exiting doorways, and unexpected sights like garbage trucks or skiers can paralyze them with fear. Household noises that are mundane to us, such as the TV or vacuum cleaner, were initially terrifying for them. In these moments, the companionship and example of the pack have been invaluable, offering reassurance and a model for adaptation.

Homecoming begins with destressing and rest. The reality of shelter life—the overcrowded and under-stimulated environment—leaves many dogs profoundly exhausted upon arrival, necessitating a period of recovery filled with sleep. These early days are a time for them to process their past experiences, often reflected in their dreams and behaviors. Our commitment extends to providing individualized care, whether it means consulting behavioral experts, sharing sleepless nights on the floor, or patiently overcoming fears and building trust.

Each dog’s integration into family life unfolds in its own time, revealing its unique preferences and needs. Our role isn’t to choose a dog but to provide a home that suits their specific requirements for a fulfilling life. Often, the right match is found through fostering and through the thoughtful guidance of the adoption agencies we collaborate with, ensuring a harmonious fit.

Rescue dogs, with their resilience and capacity for love, have the power to transform our lives profoundly. The journey from rescue to rehabilitation to becoming a cherished family member is a testament to the resilient spirit of these remarkable canines. Witnessing their transformation, the shedding of past burdens for a life filled with joy and curiosity is a reward beyond measure.
