Embracing the Elements

I’m a firm believer that when you’ve got the right gear, there’s no such thing as bad weather! In mid-March, Pittsburgh often resembles what I think Seattle, WA would be like - chilly, rainy, and always cloudy - but when you’ve got two high energy dogs, you can’t let a little wind or water stop you from getting outside!

On this particular day, even after waiting out some pretty intense rain and a severe storm warning (our bushes were blowing around like crazy!), we still had plenty of daylight to explore one of our favorite parks late one Sunday afternoon.

We got the dogs suited up in their new Hurtta Monsoon Coat II ECO dog raincoats (gotta protect those underbellies from the March mud), loaded into the car, and started down the trail.

Our first stop was a little side trail down to a mini waterfall so they could explore the river. It wasn’t long before Ares decided to take a dip in the water - his favorite thing is chasing sticks and pebbles we throw for him - and he definitely put the raincoat’s quick drying fabric to the test!

After several rounds of fetch, we continued down the trail and stopped to admire the 25 ft waterfall, which was looking extra luscious after the recent downpour. Small signs of spring were all around us - green buds on the tips of branches, and ferns peeking out from the dirt.

The dogs got to explore the riverbeds on our trek back, splashing around, drinking, and romping with each other - and even though it’s no grand adventure, we’re always grateful for every trail we get to share with them.
